Residential Snow Plowing

The time is drawing near. Summer has come to a close and the bitter crisp air of autumn is beginning to nip at our ears. Hats, boots, and coats are being dug out of closets for the preperation of the impending 15 feet of snow that will surely fall this winter.

With everything there is a season. Now is the time to think about snow removal for your home. Whether it be purchasing new shovels, changing the oil and testing out the snow blower, or finding the right contractor to meet your needs, now is the time. In fact, you may want to get your contractor very soon as most spots fill up fast. If you wait until the first snowfall, you may be too late. The rates often increase by 25-50% if you wait until the snow flies. Make sure you ask your contractor to not push snow onto you lawn until temperatures have been below freezing for at least 7 consecutive days. This will prevent your lawn from being torn and the sod from being turned over.

Snow removal cost and pricing

When it comes to the cost of Seasonal and per push snow removal services, it's all about timing. My brother mentioned to me today that this is the last day before school starts. He is always amazed at how many people know the new school year is coming for their children and yet, They always seem to wait till the last minute to buy supplies and cloths.

We know the snow is coming. Do we think that for some reason this year will be different? "Maybe it won't snow as much this year." This is the thought that most of us have. Even as I sit in my home with the air conditioner on with 92 degree temperatures in the region. The fact is that central New York Is the Snow capitol of the US each year. Sure Buffalo had a record snow fall and Rochester isn't far behind but it's safe to say that we will get anywhere from 100"-130" of that white stuff this year. It is always the best policy to buy out of season.

During the summer and autumn months (July-September), you can get a fairly good deal on residential snow removal services for the season or for a per plow basis. I estimate that a contract for seasonal starts at around $250 for a one care wide and three car long driveway during off peak season The same is true for a standard straight driveway that is 2 cars wide and 3-4 cars long. In the off peak times that could run you about $275-$350.  However, If you decide to wait until the last minute like most do, That rate could end up costing you 25-50% more.

If you wait until the first snowfall to think about a seasonal contract, it may be next to impossible as most snow removal contractors already have there snow routes planned. They have already taken on as many homes as they can do in a snow storm. If you can get one, you may end up paying as much as 75%, or making it worth their while to give you any consideration.

Right now is the time to purchase. Most residential snow removal service contractors will allow you to put 25%-50% down to reserve your spot and take the rest by November 1st.

But a boat and motorcycle in the fall and a snowmobile in the spring. By your residential plowing now!

Thanks,
Anthony

Residential Snow Plowing....Who is the right professional for you?

An old timer in the snow removal industry once told me that you can have any snow removal service 2 of 3 ways, Cheap, Fast, or Good.

If you get it cheap and fast, it won't be good.
If you get it fast and good, it won't be cheap
and if you get it good and cheap, it won't be fast.

When considering a snow removal professional, there are a number of factors that come into play. Because the residential snow removal industry is such an easy market for anyone with a snow plow to enter, we have to be very careful as to who we choose.

* Is this driver a part time driver or is this their only business? Most people starting off in the business find that Residential and Commercial snow removal is an expensive venture. With costs of maintaining equipment for just one plow truck running an average of $5000-$10,000 a year, Most newbies don't have the financial stability to weather the storms of broken down equipment or the costs of maintenance.

*The other thing to consider, does your plow guy have additional equipment? Chances are, If they have one truck with one plow and they get into an accident or suffer a breakdown in the middle of their route, you're going to be shoveling.

* How long have they been in business? This will give you a better understanding of whether your snow removal professional has been in the business for long, and how much experience they have with the above scenarios.

Do they have a website and references? A website will also give you a little more information about the snow professional. Calling all references will go a long way as to understanding how your residential snow removal provider handles themselves in a storm. Do they come back multiple times per day? Do they clean up after the DPW? Do they have general liability insurance? No, not car insurance, business insurance to cover you in case they run into your house or knock down a telephone pole or tree crashing it into your home. What if they hit your outside A/C unit? Or even your car. Most fly by night newbies don't have the coverage you need to insure your property is covered. Verify, Verify, Verify!!

Finally, mostly because of the ease of entry into the business market, plow drives think its a simple task to just push the snow. They'll tear up your yard and leave deep trenches and don't think to comes back and repair the lawn after the snow season is over. Make sure the contractor you sign states that your residential snow removal contractor will come back in the spring if they damage your lawn.

My rule of thumb is to not plow anywhere near the lawn until we have had at least 7 consecutive days of below zero weather. After that, the ground hardens and there is less likelihood of damaging lawns.

Oh yeah, one more tip, Find a snow removal specialist who will answer their phone 24 hours during the winter. Once you've selected your residential snow removal company, and they perform well, don't ever find another. Cheap price for poor service is just that, cheap and poor. I would rather spend an extra $25-$50 and know I will never have to touch the snow.

If you ask the questions above when vetting your snow removal contractor, You will be nice and cozy this winter and your plow contractor will serve you well.

Easiest way to clean snow off of your car

What is the fastest, easiest way to clean that pile of snow of your car you ask? No. It's not swiping the windshield wipers a couple of times and then driving down the road. It's not inching your side windows up and down quickly with the power windows. And no. It's not the old standby, arm swipe, or even the tiny car brushes. You might as well be using a toothbrush.

The most efficient way to clean all that snow of your car is to use an indoor shop broom. It won't scratch your car and you can clean most vehicles off in 6 swipes or less. This will work with up to a foot of snow

Starting off divide the top portion of your car into four sections. Start at the roof of the vehicle and pull the snow backwards. Do this for all for sections. Finally, make two sweeps along  each side of the car. Less than 30 seconds and you're done.  Be sure to tap the extra snow off of the broom head and store the broom out of the snow...keeps it from getting icy.

Worried about finding a spot for it in your car? Get a telescopic broom handle for about $8 and unscrew when you're done. http://www.amazon.com/Multi-Purpose-Turn-Loc-telescoping-handle-Extension/dp/B00GJ0KLEK/ref=sr_1_3?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1441423271&sr=1-3&keywords=Telescoping+broom+handle

Now you can turn on your wipers and drive safe this winter.

What winter tips do you have? Please share

Best in Class Snow Removal Starts with "SERVICE"

Dear Homeowners,

It's not hard to imagine why good customer service is lost with employee's and professionals who claim to be in "customer care" or "customer relations" in this generation.

The man who takes your order at the drive through window or the woman who throws your fruits in the bottom of the grocery bag, gently nestled un the fifteen pounds of soup cans and sauces. Why do we go back to the same fast food place when we absolutely know without a doubt that they get our order wrong seven times out of ten. Why is it that when I order a professional snow removal service from one of those "On-Demand" apps that are so popular today, that they plow the wrong house 3 out of 4 times. Then they send me a picture of someone else's house that I just paid for to rub it in my face? Why is it that the 'Plow Guy" I hired to plow my 100+ foot driveway was on time to collect the money and then never showed up again? Leaving me to shovel the driveway all winter long at the wee hours of the morning. Then he tries to show up next year like he did a fantastic job!

What's really lacking in today's society is what I like to call "Tech Vision". We as a people spend so much time with our eyes glued to the monitor, tablet, or smart phone, using all types of apps, text, email, IM,'s etc. that are designed to make us more closely connected with our 1,365 not really friends...friends, That we forget how to connect on a personal face to face level. We say things as if we are on the other side of the world with no connect or care for each other. Personality is relegated to a few emoticons....well a lot more now but still, nothing can replace a facial expression, a genuine smile, or a word spoken kindly. Nothing can replace going the extra mile when only a foot is expected.

So when it comes to exceptional snow removal service, or anything else I do, I place an emphasis on the "service" in customer service. I serve those I work for, I work with, I go to church with, and with my family. If I drive by a customers house and I notice they're running late and haven;t left yet, I get out and clean off the car for them. If I know an elderly person lives in the house, it does them no good to have a clean driveway if there is six inches of snow in front of their door. and a "Professional Snow Removal Service Provider", I make it my goal to do something above and beyond each day for my customers. It doesn't matter if you're a per pow customer or you've ordered the works, we all like to be treated special...to feel special.
